Group 3

  • El Potosino

  • El Fandanguito

The Téenek which according to the speakers means "those who live in the countryside, and that we identify by the name of HUASTECOS. Archaeological studies in the formative period 1500 BC tell us that they came from the Yucatan peninsula, from the Mayan region, walking towards the Gulf of Mexico to the Totonaca area, in the classical period, between 300 and 900 AD, advanced to find a land similar to those of their ancestors and settled in what we know as the huasteca that today make up the states of Tamaulipas, northern Veracruz, Queretaro, Hidalgo, northern Puebla and San Luis Potosi.

In the huasteca potosina, the téenek women are distinguished for being excellent embroiderers, so in their costumes full of culture and tradition that reflect their mysticism, the ladies of this ethnic group are distinguished by their elegance when wearing an embroidered quechquemtl with the 5 unique colors that stand out, which are: Red, symbolizing blood, yellow the sun, pink, joys, green nature, orange and brown.

As embroidery, it carries the star, which is sacred because it gives them light at night; it symbolizes the one in the sky, the one that shines; it represents the 4 cardinal points, and with the center, it is like a pregnant woman, since at 9 months her son is born, representing the god Dhipaak (the soul of the corn).

The deer and the bird are for protection, the tree symbolizes life and abundance. The PETOB, which is the headdress, according to its size signifies the position he has in the family and today is considered a work of art as the hair is entangled through the petob without any clasp to the nape of the neck.

The man with hat in hand, generally and gallantly in a caravan, before the lady approaches to invite her to dance, if the dancer accepted, the dance began, with rhythmic movements, staring each other in the face (in some places this was called presumir).

The Son Huasteco is a mestizo dance, of more recent creation in comparison with the indigenous dances, it arises from the colony and is executed by the people, implanting its own seal, characteristic of the region.
